The Department
The Department of English teaches Foundation
English to the under graduate students of the college.
The faculty takes care to improve the
communication skill of all the students and special care to improve the
proficiency level of the slow learners by organizing a two week long
bridge course for the fresher's. Class tests are conducted regularly,
and university model examinations are conducted twice a year. Faculty
members meet students individually to advice and encourage.
Programme's such as 'open forum', poetry
reading and competitions in quiz, oratory and essay writing are
conducted periodically to improve the overall performance. The
association activities include debating, elocution and writing
competitions. Every year the department conducts a Bridge Course in
English for two weeks to primarily cater to students who have done
their school education in the vernacular. The sessions are held
either during the November vacation or after instructional hours.
The course material designed by the faculty introduces the students to
major topics in English grammar and the skill of English language
learning. The students are encouraged to do the exercises intended to
improve their communication skills, both spoken and written on
handouts, given to them on all days of the programme.
Audio-visual equipment is available to show
Shakespearean plays to the students and for similar functions.
